Strong environmental principles have always been at the heart of tor&co’s consultancy advice to clients. Tackling the challenges of climate change through the delivery of low carbon and renewable energy projects is a key priority for tor&co. These include 36 schemes across the wind, solar and biomass sectors in addition to a geothermal energy plant for the Eden Project in Cornwall. Together these projects are generating over 700MW of renewable electricity, saving over 600,000 tonnes of carbon emissions each year.

 

tor&co has considerable experience in the low carbon energy sector having secured planning permission for 9 of the 48 energy recovery facilities operating in the UK today (a 100% success rate). These projects have all been highly controversial, requiring a sensitive approach, a robust planning strategy and extensive stakeholder and community engagement. All of these projects have been designed to be Combined Heat and Power ready with the Sheffield Energy Recovery Centre providing heat and power to commercial premises and homes within the City Centre. A current project proposed for Portland will provide shore power for cruise liners and two prisons in the locality.

 

tor&co has successfully secured planning permissions for portfolios of solar farms throughout the UK and is currently progressing several more major49.9MW projects for a range of clients. We have acted on several wind farms both onshore and offshore including the 12-turbine Lisset Airfield Wind Farm, south of Bridlington and the 26 wind turbine Scout Moor Wind Farm.

 

Increasingly, our renewable energy projects are seeking to deliver a range of linked energy types, with private wire connections to local businesses and other organisations, as well as providing energy to electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.
